Maria tries to fool Brando into vacating the sofa Empty Maria tries to fool Brando into vacating the sofa

Maria, our Podengo Medio, and Brando, our Labradengo cross, whom we believe is her brother from another litter, both love to doze on the sofa.  Right now they are sharing it amicably.   But Maria regards it as her personal domain.  Sometimes, if she has occupied it first, she will growl at him when he approaches.  He never tries to jump on to it, when she does this.

But if he gets to the sofa first, Maria will not challenge his occupation, either.  She just looks downcast and will neither look at him or her owners.  No amount of pleading will change her attitude.  She appears to take great offense and after looking miserable for a few minutes, she will leave the room to sulk elsewhere.

Last night, she tried a new ruse. She barked loudly at the top of the stairs, as though she had sensed a potential intruder. Often Brando, who defers to her superior sense of smell and hearing, will rush to the front door to check what is happening.  At this point she sneaks in and jumps onto her favorite position, on the sofa.

But she has now done this several times and Brando, who  is  a smart dog was not fooled any more. He stayed right where he was.  Looks like she will have to thing of another trick.
