Jet, the dog in the avatar, now lives in Nuremburg, Germany. This summer we plan to take our Podengo, Maria and our Labradengo, Brando to see Jet and her twin sister Niki. Their owner who normally speaks German explained to them in English that Brando (whom they grew up with) is coming to visit.
She reported that they stared at her, as they always do when she speaks english. They were helped and rescued mostly by english-speaking people including Jamie, from San Diego, who now lives in Portugal, who flew with them to Europe.
It seems that they recall english as a language of people who saved their lives, from the local savages who issued a Fatwa on them. They used to roam freely around the condo, but sleep in our front yard in the Cape Verdes. Night intruders would be circled by two vociferously barking, fast and agile dogs. This made it hard to achieve their mission objective. Since the dogs went to Germany, night robberies have become common.
