Caring fo the Coat

Are there any grooming tips on how to handle trimmings,or stripping the hair? Also do they shud alot of hair?

The Podengo has was has been called a 'progressive coat'. Some times of year it will be shorter and then it will thicken and become longer. Most who own them find that a regular brushing is about all that is needed to get out the dead coat. Stripping is not allowed in the standard and will break the coat.

Some have indicated that the Furminator works well at pulling out the dead hair but I've never seen it in action - having smooths.

Most just let them be au natural - with just a weekly brush.

when bodhi was younger (not that he's old now) i noticed that his hair was coming out in handfulls, not all of it, but the longer hair on his back and such. so i hand stripped him, and he was quite short for a while, now it's back and i think the cycle will repeat itself.

lori, my co worker has wylie, bodhi's brother, and when he got here he had great hair, all wispy and long. that didn't ast long though once he got into daycare it startede coming out as he was playing with other dogs, then since he was all patchy lori stripped him as well. i don't think wylie was touched much prior to lori getting him, which is why he had all the hair still. he's the more skittish one also.

Actually stripping is really not the preferred method as it does break coat - this is a progressive coat and it will grow out in stages and the fall out in chunks. In it's natural pack state - that would come off running through the brush.

Brushing out - using a zoom groom (kind of a gummie brush thing) is much preferred to the stripping comb. The standard also indicates natural coat and most have found that just weekly brushing keeps the coat in control without that bald look.
