Maria was in a room full of dogs, mostly collies that she knows and likes. Suddenly she leaped onto my knee and swung around. In this position she was higher than any other dog in the room. She looked very pleased with herself and sort of crowed. It was as if she was saying "I am the king of the castle" in the children`s game.
Then she jumped off again and kow-towed to a female collie. By this I mean that she laid down on the ground just in front of the standing collie. She placed her head on the ground and looked up at Pie, who is a very good friend. Pie seemed to understand the deference.
A few days later she met Homer, the only Podengo Medio that lives in our part of town. But this time it was totally different. Homer was climbing up the steps from his apartment to the sidewalk. He was about to be taken for a walk.
He is a very handsome male, about the same age as Maria but larger. He was rescued from Lisbon, Portugal after he was left outside a vet`s surgery. Homer was a perfect gentleman and ignored Maria as she pressed her snout through the railings of his house and barked and barked at him. She knows that he is the same breed and has usually liked other Podengos that she met in Portugal.
Does anyone have any ideas about how we can encourage her to be more friendly?
