Hello! My name is Mariah. I live in Wisconsin and train in Agility and Flyball. I have a Border Collie and a Pyrenean Shepherd that I train. I have been interested in the Podengo breed for a few years. I wanted one before I got my Pyre 3 years ago, but it was so hard to locate one. However, I am tentatively planning on a new dog now. I am interested in a challenging rare breed to do agility with and am looking into some of the terrier and sighthound breeds that I have been interested in before. I would prefer a dog that doesn't have a smooth coat, which is what keeps me away from other breeds I like, such as the Whippet and Pharaoh Hound. Also, I would like a dog that is between 19 and 23 inches tall which takes out most of the terrier breeds I like. I use operant conditioning in my training, with almost entirely reward based methods. I love dogs that are very food and toy/chase motivated. I'm not afraid of road blocks that come with breeds like this as my first agility dog was a Siberian Husky and I have worked with many Schnauzers and terriers with a breeder nearby.

Please let me know if you think a Medio might be a good match for me. If so, are there any planned litters this year, maybe even in the midwest? What is the average price for a puppy?

    Welcome to the Forum!

In my experience with my oversized pequeno , Agility is something he would excel at and he fits most of the breeds personality standards/quirks.

The biggest issue i've found with mine is keeping his nose off the ground long enough to complete a task , but even at that he isnt to terribly bad.

Hello, is she still available? Do you have the contact info of the owner? Thanks!

Also, do you have the contact info of any medio breeders in the US that I could speak with about future plans?

If you click on the link that I provided there is an email contact in there. In addition there is another female smooth that is quite well trained neutered and current on shots - that is in FLORIDA.

Oh I found the topic now. Im hoping for an agility prospect so if she has luxating patellas thats not good! I'm hoping for a puppy to be honest, because it is so much easier to establish a reliable recall in puppies, especially if they have very strong chase instincts.

The luxating patella is something that can get better with work if it's not severe.

Two of my three dogs have it , one being an 11yr old Lhasa/JRT mix who to this day can still job a couple miles with me.

And my Podengo Pequeno Caesar who also comes on jogs.

This is all purely anecdotal but in my experience the more up/down hills and regular exercise they receive (provided its not severe) the better they do physically.

However the dog in RI wouldnt appear to be a good fit for you. Hopefully she will be for me. =)
